Today's Special Archives: September 2006
News Archives Index
ABC News has posted a video interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, where he speaks about all things Wii. While most of what Reggie talks about is already common knowledge, he does drop a couple of new Wii details, including revealing that he personally will take on the role of register biscuit at the Nintendo World Store in New York City on November 19th, where he'll be on hand to cash out the first Wii purchasers when the store opens for a special midnight launch. Hopefully he'll be handing out cups of coffee as well.

Dragon Quest and Mario Team Up on DS [ Famitsu ]
|
In recent weeks, Square-Enix has shown nothing short of pure adoration for the Nintendo DS, having revealed a ton of games for the dual-screened wonder. Now, you can add on another to the pile: Square-Enix and Nintendo's second collaborative effort on the DS (after Mario Hoops 3-on-3), Itagaki Street DS. For those not in the know, the Itagaki Street series is basically Square-Enix's version of the Mario Party franchise, with board game elements and tons of minigames. The DS version will feature characters from Square-Enix's popular Dragon Quest franchise (Jessica from Dragon Quest VIII and the Dragon Quest mascot, Slime, are confirmed) as well as Mario and Luigi themselves. Check out the Famitsu scan revealing the game below.

Opera Reveals Details on Wii's Web Browser [ Opera ]
|
Opera Software today announced details on its browser for Nintendo’s soon-to-be released game console, Wii. Opera’s full Web browser is available for download from the "Wii Shop Channel". Nintendo has stated that they will offer Opera free of charge as a temporary promotion for all Wii users until June 2007.
From July 2007, users can purchase the Opera browser using Wii points. Wii points are credits users can buy that allow them to add new games or the Opera browser to their Wii consoles. The number of Wii points required to purchase Opera has not yet been announced.
With support for Flash and AJAX-based content such as Google maps, Wii users will benefit from a feature-rich Internet experience that is uniquely customized for the Wii. Opera for Wii boasts the same complete standards support as the Opera 9 Desktop browser, and includes the added functionality of "Zoom" and "Bookmarks". The Wii remote control will also be an integral part of browsing, allowing users to intuitively control the Web with their Wii remotes.
Nintendo has previously announced that Wii will be available in the U.S. on November 19, 2006, Japan on December 2, 2006, and in Europe on December 8, 2006. The cost for the console is $249.99 or 25,000 Yen.
Opera did not specify if the browser must be purchased by all to continue use after July 2007, or if the browser will be permanently complimentary for all Wii early-adopters.

Capcom Announces Mega Man Star Force [ Capcom ]
|
Capcom today announced Mega Man Star Force for the Nintendo DS, the first game in a new Mega Man series making its debut in three versions – Pegasus, Leo and Dragon. Mega Man Star Force introduces all new characters and a fresh storyline with interspatial themes of astronomy and electric wave signals. Developed by the team behind the popular Mega Man Battle Network series, the game marks the start of a new era for Mega Man, which celebrates his 20th anniversary next year. The first playable demo of the game will be available in the Kids Corner at Tokyo Game Show 2006. Capcom plans to release Mega Man Star Force in fall 2007.
The year is 22XX. Viruses and cyber crime have been eliminated from the net and technology has advanced to an unprecedented level. The world of tomorrow is one where people use mobile computers called "Trancers" and are able to change various navigation systems into electromagnetic waves (EM waves). These EM waves are known as the Wave Road. The Wave Road exists in the real world, however it is only visible to those from the mysterious planet FM and the game’s hero who, through a twist of fate, transforms into EM waves himself.
Mega Man Star Force introduces a new lead character, a boy named Subaru Hoshikawa, whose astronaut father has disappeared after a mysterious incident at the satellite station. Fond memories of spending time with his father have inspired Subaru’s interests in the stars and what lies beyond. One day, Subaru heads to the observation deck and puts on a pair of “visualizer" glasses that had belonged to his father. These allow the wearer to see all the electric connections that exist between spaces. When he puts on these special goggles, a specific wave is triggered, summoning the presence of a mysterious alien life form named Warlock who had escaped from the planet FM. Dangerous creatures from that planet have come to attack Earth, so they must join together in order to defeat these menacing forces. Combining with Warlock enables Subaru to transform into Mega Man and enter the Wave Road.

North America Gets 1 Million Wiis [ IGN Wii ]
|
While it was heavily assumed that the Nintendo Wii, being much cheaper to produce than the PS3 and Xbox 360, was going to be in plentiful supply this holiday season, we didn't know how plentiful. Now, we do, as Nintendo of Canada vice president Rob Bertram has officially announced that Nintendo will have 1 million Wiis available in North America at the console's launch on November 19th. This is more than twice what Sony will be offering for the PlayStation 3 (only 400,000 units), as well as much more than Microsoft offered for the 360. This would make Wii's launch the biggest in Nintendo's history, and Bertram states the company will be able to meet demand, including the 4 million units set to ship by year's end.

So it's 22 today, huh? It seems like we're always making birthday posts. Man, we're getting old. But that's okay, that just means we can celebrate faster every year. After finally getting to hang out with you at E3, it's too bad I can't be there to celebrate with you this year (and help you out with your computer while I'm at it). But one of these days we'll have to do something like that. All in all, have a good one this year. I'm glad to know you, and we're certainly glad to have you as part of GCC. Have a happy birthday, mang!

Sengoku Musou Wave Screenshots [ Koei ]
|
Sengoku Musou Wave is Koei's first title for Wii, based in the Samurai Warriors world. Using the Wii Remote players can simply cut the screen to utilize the player's katana to cut down wave after wave of men. Or something like that.
Look, we're not going to lie to you. The game looks like crap. I seriously was wondering at first if this was a DS game or not. The fact that Koei is putting it on Wii is just an insult, and if I was Nintendo I wouldn't let this anywhere near the console.
Anyway, if you like pain, check out the game's screens below. Don't say I didn't warn you. Sengoku Musou Wave should come to the US sometime next year.

|
New details have arose in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine dealing with one of Square-Enix's big surprises for the Nintendo DS, a spin-off game from the PS2's Final Fantasy XII, entitled Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. The game will be completely controlled with the DS's touch screen and stylus, and will be set during no specific timeframe in the Ivalice universe (For the unitiated, FFXII, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance are all set in the same world). The game's music will be composed by Hitoshi Sakamoto (FFXII, FFT, FFTA), and Akitoshi Kawazu, creator of the SaGa series, will be Executive Producer.

Clamored for at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Wing Island was nowhere to be found. Now, we bring you an exclusive preview of what is sure to be the one of the top flight simulators of the season, due in part to Nintendo's innovative Wii remote controller.
The Wii controller features an accelerometer (yes, that's a real word!) that senses motion, allowing users to control aircraft like real pilots. Forget the analog stick. The Wii controller acts as the yoke of a plane! Tilt it up and planes climbs in the air. Tilt it down and planes dive. Twist it left or right and planes performs barrel rolls.
In Wing Island, you're not always flying alone. Take command of an aircraft squadron and change formation with the press of a button. Flick your wrist and your squadron will perform special tasks specific to the formation they're in. With incredibly intuitive controls, anyone can pick this game up and have a blast. What's more, two players can go at it in a series of competitive tournaments!
The storyline revolves around conquering islands that each contains missions. Missions range from popping balloons to putting out fires to dropping cargo. Earn money by completing missions and upgrade your plane. Salivating? How about a mission where you must save an ocean liner in distress as a fire blankets its exterior hull? Too much excitement for you? How about a mission exploring the island in search of an elusive cow? As you progress in the game, the islands become increasingly difficult. With missions like these, however, there's always fun along the way!
- Nintendo's Wii remote acts as the yoke of the plane! A motion sensor relays aircraft control, producing flight simulation like never before!
- Multiplayer support! See who can pop the most balloons or have a sky racing derby!
- Unlock more planes! Planes get faster, stronger, and even easier to control.
- A variety of missions and environments await you and your team of sky workers. Do you have what it takes?

The CMP Game Group, organizers of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), announced today that they are more than doubling their show floor to accommodate the game industry market need for a single, one-stop shop event. The Game Developers Conference will take place March 5-9, 2007 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.
With E3 moving to a 5,000 person media-centric event, GDC has been elevated to the world's largest trade event dedicated to the game industry, with attendees numbering more than 12,500 including more than 1,000 members of the working press. 2007 will be the first year of GDC's long-term relocation to San Francisco, after its high growth trajectory necessitated the move to accommodate the expanding attendee base. When GDC was last in San Francisco in 2005, the show occupied the three floors of Moscone West. For GDC 07, the organizers reserved both Moscone West and Moscone North. With the Moscone West show floor virtually sold out, the organizers have now additionally secured the keynote hall in Moscone South in order to convert Moscone North into a second dedicated show floor. This will allow the GDC to accommodate the voluminous requests coming in for exhibition space and to include fresh exhibitor opportunities, such as the all-new Game Demo Theater.
"As GDC enters its 20th year, it emerges as the event with the largest gravitational pull of any other game industry-only event," said Jamil Moledina, executive director of the GDC. "While it remains our primary goal to serve the game development community and ensure that the session-based half of GDC remains unchanged, we also believe it is time to dramatically upgrade the range of expo opportunities. The result of our expansion is that GDC becomes the natural choice for all companies in the game industry ecosystem to exhibit and conduct business."
The new show floor is built around a core of existing GDC expo suites and a networking lounge, surrounded by publishers, developers, outsourcers, middleware providers, peripheral companies, component companies, mobile game companies, casual game companies, serious game companies, online game companies, licensed IP holders, and international consortia. These groups complement the existing GDC exhibitors of platform companies, tool providers, and technology providers. Vendors on the new floor have a choice between booth space, expo suites and meeting rooms, while publishers and developers have the chance to demonstrate upcoming games in the brand new Game Demo Theater.

|
Killer robots are attacking major cities across the United States, and the military is powerless to stop them. Players control one of Project H.A.M.M.E.R.'s cyborg prototypes: half-man, half-machine, with an extraordinary weapon - and the power to save the world.
Grab the Wii Remote and start swinging. Equipped with a hammer of amazing strength, players represent the only hope against an unstoppable army of marauding automatons.
Players use the Nunchuk controller in one hand to maneuver through a variety of vast and detailed environments. They use the Wii Remote in the other just like a real hammer to control the hero's weapon. Swing the controller side to side to make the in-game hammer send enemies flying. Lift it into the air and bring it down to smash robots to smithereens. Use the A button for quick hammer flurries.
Enter a world of nonstop action, excitement and relentless destruction. Players will reduce rampaging robots to scrap metal as they battle their way across the United States. If they see an enemy, they smash it. And they continue to smash until every city across America is saved.

Become a Pokémon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon [ Nintendo ]
|
Pokémon fans have dreamed of this moment, and now Nintendo is making it a reality. Starting Sept. 20, players who pick up a copy of the new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for Nintendo DS or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team for Game Boy Advance SP will for the first time experience the game as an actual Pokémon character, which allows them to interact with - and even talk to - other Pokémon.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon asks the question, "what if you woke up one day and you were a Pokémon?" Pokémon Mystery Dungeon starts players on an adventure unlike those found in any previous Pokémon game. Players awake to find that they have been transformed into a Pokémon. They choose one other Pokémon as a partner and set off to form a rescue team in a land ravaged by natural disasters. The players chat with Pokémon and make friends with more than 380 other Pokémon along the way. Players can accept rescue jobs to help fellow Pokémon who are in trouble. The deep storyline draws players in, while randomly generated dungeons keep them coming back for more.
An exciting feature in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon lets friends who each have a copy of the game come to each other's aid. If a player loses a battle in a dungeon, another player can come to his or her rescue. Fallen players who are rescued do not lose their money or items, and can restart their games from where they left off.
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team for Nintendo DS and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team for Game Boy Advance SP will be available Sept. 20, and are Rated E for Everyone. Both games are almost identical in content, allowing the players to choose either one for the system they want to use. The Official Nintendo Power Player's Guide for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is now available at retail. For more information about the games, visit the games' official site.

It looks like some details are beginning to surface for Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. The game looks to fill in some of the holes left by the Resident Evil series over time. It will be divided up into four chapters.
Chapter 1 - Resident Evil Mansion - Stars Jill and Chris Chapter 2 - Resident Evil 2's RPD - Stars Leon and Claire Chapter 3 - Resident Evil 3's City Areas - Stars Jill and Carlos Chapter 4 - Resident Evil 4's Village and Surrounding Areas - Stars Leon and Ada
RE:UC will link RE4 and the Umbrella's status in it more closely to the rest of the games in the series. Other details include:
-Unlocking other characters later after playing through the game, such as Rebecca Chambers, Hunk, and Wesker -Gameplay is like RE4. Press B to go over the shoulder, point, and shoot with A -Motions, rather than a button press, with the Wii remote get you through Quick-Time Events -All characters will have strengths and weaknesses, as well as melee attacks -Each character has a unique set of weapons and can carry two at at ime -There is an Arcade Mode, similar to the Mercenaries from RE4
Definitely a lot to look forward to. If Wii also gets RE5 later, it will be quite a treat for Nintendo fans.

Looks like Nintendo told us a bit of a fib yesterday. According to a report from GamesIndustry.biz, and according to a Nintendo of Europe representative at today's London press conference, the Wii will in fact be region-encoded, which directly contradicts comments made by Nintendo representatives, including Nintendo VP of marketing Perrin Kaplan, at yesterday's New York press conference. The Nintendo rep also stated that Kaplan and the other representatives were in error with their statement? So why the error? Were wires crossed within Nintendo's communication channels? Who's right in this situation? We'll have confirmation on if the Wii will be region-encoded or not hopefully very soon.
UPDATE: A Nintendo spokesperson has just confirmed to Joystiq that the Wii will be region-encoded. All we can say is...bummer.

Wii Sports Updated Fact Sheet [ Nintendo ]
|
Nintendo has updated the fact sheet for Wii Sports to include descriptions of Bowling and Boxing.
* Tennis (1-4 players): Players grab the Wii Remote like a racket and swing – the game registers forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don’t worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.
* Baseball (1-2 players): Players grip the Wii Remote like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park, or fire a fastball over the plate with a flick of their wrist. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats – all fielding and running is automatic, so that players can focus on the action.
* Golf (1-4 players): Step up to the tee, hold the Wii Remote like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly. Be careful, though – if players swing too hard, their ball will fly out of control, so they should be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.
* Bowling (1-4 players): Players raise the Wii Remote in their hand just like a bowling ball, and then swing their arms to roll the ball. The speed of the swing and the angle at which they release the ball affects the ball’s spin, so it will take some practice to master control over the ball and knock down the pins.
* Boxing (1-2 players): Using the Nunchuk controller as one glove and the Wii Remote as the other, players dodge, weave and punch their opponents. Players hold their hands high to guard their faces or low to block their torsos. They punch high to hit their opponents’ faces or low to get under their guard for a body blow. Swing both arms left or right to sidestep oncoming blows and move into position for a devastating knockout.

Resident Evil 10th Anniversary Edition Announced [ EB Games ]
|
Hey, some GameCube news! With all the hubbub about Nintendo's next-gen console flowing around the internets, it's easy to forget that Nintendo still has a flailing, yet solid current-gen machine in stores. It also just got a new game announced for it, as a page from EB Games has revealed that Resident Evil 10th Anniversary Edition is on its way exclusively for the GameCube, set to release on October 24th for a price of $39.99. It's unknown what the game could be - signs would point to a re-release of the Resident Evil GCN remake from a few years back (lovingly dubbed "RE:make" by fans), but this doesn't quite make sense given the price of the game. Perhaps some new content is included? Stay tuned as Capcom will likely make the game official in the coming weeks.

Earlier today, Nintendo VP of marketing Perrin Kaplan was asked if the Wii would be in fact be region free, like the DS before it. Her response was unclear, stating that first-party Nintendo games would not be region-encoded, but that might not hold true for third-party games. However, the sleuths at Gamespot's rumor control has found the official word: the Wii will be completely region-free, allowing for games from every region to be played on any Wii console. Great news for import gamers worldwide, as well as for Japanese (and possibly European) gamers who don't want to wait for the console to reach their shores.
Stay tuned tomorrow as we'll have all the details from Nintendo's conference in London detailing the Wii's European launch.

Mario Strikers Charged Fact Sheet [ Nintendo ]
|
Take to the pitch as Mario Strikers Charged (the follow-up title to Super Mario Strikers) arrives with a new roster of features, only for Wii.
Use the skill the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers provide to win the ball, score unstoppable goals and take control of the goal keeper to perform spectacular saves. Mario is joined by other famous Nintendo characters who take on the role of captain. Players then select a host of popular teammates to make up the rest of the team.
Players form an original team by combining one of 12 captains with three of eight sidekicks before competing in one of the game’s many modes. Anything goes in Mario Strikers Charged, as players are allowed to use a variety of special abilities to clinch important goals. Each captain has his or her own set of skills and super abilities, as well as the ability to perform special shots called Mega Strikes, where the iron ball splits into five balls and flies at the goal. The defending player must use the Wii Remote to target and aim at and shoot these balls out of the air before conceding a goal. In this game, players also can charge energy to the metal ball, making it more likely to find its target when fired at goal.
Each of the stadiums in Mario Strikers Charged has various characteristics and contraptions, which influence game play. Players must learn to use this to their advantage to truly dominate the pitch. Mario Strikers Charged will not only feature an action-packed multiplayer mode, but also will support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, which allows players to take part in tournaments with others.

Wii Game Packaging Revealed? [ EBGames ]
|
By now everyone has seen the ugly mockup boxart for Wii games that IGN and EBGames have been putting up as placeholders. Well, it would appear that is most definitely not what it will look like. A lone game on EB's website shows what appears to be an official boxart. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz shows a much sleeker design for the Wii boxart designs. There is no indiciation of it being a mockup and appears to be the real deal. Take a look for yourself.

Quotes from Third-Party Publishers About Wii [ Nintendo ]
|
“I believe the Wii will attract new and casual gamers to the world of interactive entertainment. It’s a fun, easy and economical system that will become a bridge to gaming for mainstream audiences. At EA, we are putting more support behind the Wii than any Nintendo hardware launch since the Super NES.” – Larry Probst, Chairman and CEO, Electronic Arts
“The Wii is changing audience interaction, opening up whole
new experiences that have never been possible in video games. With the instinctual control of the Wii Remote, Nintendo is advancing the gaming experience to the broadest audience of gamers. Activision is excited about the launch of the Wii and the opportunity it offers. So much so, we plan to have five titles available at launch – our strongest lineup ever for a new console. We have more development resources devoted to the Wii than to any previous Nintendo platform. The Wii is likely to have a profound impact on the size, growth and overall opportunities for the video game market.” – Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc.
“The Wii control scheme opens up unexplored areas for our talented teams to innovate when creating games. It’s invigorating for us. We believe that it will help create a new level of interest in video games and engage more players around the world.”
– Laurent DeToc, President of Ubisoft North America

Nintendo’s strategy of ease of play and mass marketing pricing is perfectly aligned with Disney.” – Graham Hopper, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Buena Vista Games
“In order for our industry to continue to grow, we’ve got to think about gaming and games differently. That’s exactly what Nintendo is doing.” – Geoff Mulligan, COO, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.
“For established publishers, the Virtual Console model is a tremendous opportunity to extend our classic brands. Nobody ever thinks of a good book as retired – why shouldn’t great games live forever, too?” – Naoya Tsurumi, CEO, Sega of America
“With escalating costs for both developing games and for consumers buying new game systems, we applaud Nintendo’s drive to spread gaming to the masses – and we fully support that approach.” – Brian Farrell, President and CEO, THQ, Inc.

The public knows of government agencies like the FBI and CIA, but little is known of this super-secret agency. Code-named “Elite Beat Agents,” these men in black are heroes' heroes and the coolest group of guys this world has ever known. Of course, according to official records, they do not exist.
Their leader, an ex-CIA agent named Commander Kahn, scans the world for cries of help. When he finds one, he dispatches the agents, who assist their targets by performing a song and dance. The hypnotic nature of their rocking revives the targets with “Groovy” energy that boosts their willpower and helps them overcome their obstacles.
* As the music plays, players tap the screen, trace rhythmic patterns and keep the beat as the story unfolds on the top screen.
* Every scene is accompanied by rump-shaking tunes, but players have to keep the Elite Beat Agents grooving. The worse players do, the worse the story might end up.
* Rhythm games have come and gone, but no one has ever seen anything like the Elite Beat Agents. Whether they're helping a lost dog find its way home or helping a babysitter charm a hunky football player, no crisis is too weird.

* Players can expect all the floating, jumping and battling of a classic Kirby game, but this time, Kirby's copy abilities have been massively boosted. Not only can players mix and match copy abilities by using the stylus to drag them together inside Kirby's copy center (located on the touch screen), but the powers themselves now have the ability to affect the environment, as well as foes. Burn trees and grasses with the Fire ability or freeze water with the Ice ability.
* In sub-game mode, this game also features multiplayer fun for up to four players, using either Multi-Card or DS Download Play over DS Local Area Network.

Wii Channel Menu Fact Sheet [ Nintendo ]
|
Here's a breakdown of the "channels" the Wii will use:
*Disc Channel: This channel allows users to play either Wii game discs or the entire library of Nintendo GameCube discs.
*Mii Channel: Fun caricatured portraits created in this channel can be used as characters across a variety of Wii software. Portraits can be stored in a user’s Wii Remote and taken to a friend’s house to play on another Wii console. Each member of the family can have his or her Wii Remote personalized with a caricature.
*Photo Channel: This channel allows users to take digital pictures stored on an SD memory card and display them on their television screens. Users also can manipulate the photos in a variety of fun and creative ways, such as zooming or creating mosaics, puzzles or slide shows. They can draw, add stamps, and copy and paste. They also can change the “mood” of photos by brightening them, converting them to monochrome, inverting the color or changing them to stark black and white. Users can even add an MP3 tune to their slide shows. It provides a fun and easy outlet for people to edit their digital pictures. Users also can send their pictures to other Wii consoles by attaching a photo to the Wii Message Board.
*Forecast Channel: Users who have connected their Wii console to the Internet can access free local weather forecasts just a few seconds after turning on the Wii console. The WiiConnect24 service automatically updates local weather information. Users can view forecasts for cities around the world on a 3-D globe.
*News Channel: Users can access breaking news with the touch of a button. When connected to the Internet, the WiiConnect24 service automatically updates this free channel and organizes it in a variety of topical categories. Users can see where news is happening by viewing the location of news stories on a 3-D globe.
*Wii Shop Channel: This is where users go to buy Wii Points or redeem them to download classic video games to the Virtual Console. Users also can use points to download the Opera browser used in the Internet Channel.
*Internet Channel: This channel dramatically changes the relationship between a user’s home, the television and the Internet. Users download the Opera browser with Wii Points. Then they can surf the Internet right from the comfort of their couch. They can do quick research while watching a television program (“What was that actor’s name again?”). Or book travel plans and shop during commercials. The service is compatible with Macromedia Flash.
*Wii Message Board: Forget hand-scrawled notes tacked to the refrigerator door. Users can leave messages for other family members on a calendar-based message board. They also can use WiiConnect24 to send messages to people outside the home as well. Even better, people can trade photos and text messages with cell phone users. The service also allows for incoming messages targeted at software, such as a new map or weapon for a game. Games can constantly be updated, thereby extending their playability.

Inspired by the “movie within the movie” finale of Walt Disney Pictures’ box office hit film “Chicken Little,” Disney’s Chicken Little: Ace in Action features Ace, the superhero alter ego of Chicken Little, and the Hollywood versions of his misfit band of friends: Runt, Abby and Fish-Out-of-Water. The crew faces off against Foxy Loxy and her evil Amazonian sidekick, Goosey Loosey, who have an evil plan to take over Earth. Battle evil alien robots through multiple levels across the solar system and combat your foes in one of three distinct gameplay modes: Ace on foot as a soldier, Runt as the driver of an armored tank and Abby as the pilot of a spaceship.
The original Chicken Little and his friends Abby, Runt and Fish we know from the original film are featured in cut scenes throughout the game. Chicken Little receives a copy of the latest video game starring his superhero alter ego and invites his friends to come over and play the game with him, in effect creating a “video game within a video game.” The look and feel of Disney’s Chicken Little: Ace in Action is an over-the-top parody of 1950s sci-fi films inspired by the glimpse into Ace’s world from the film.
Check out the first screens of the game below, also set for Nintendo DS as well as Wii.

New Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Screenshots [ Activision ]
|
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is an all-new action/RPG where players create their Marvel dream team from the largest roster of Super Heroes ever in an epic quest that will determine the fate of Earth and the Marvel universe. For decades, Earth’s Super Heroes have opposed evil in their own cities, and on their own terms. But now, Dr. Doom and a newly reformed Masters of Evil – the greatest collection of Super Villains ever assembled – have plans for world domination, and the heroes must band together to defeat them. Playing as some of the most revered Marvel characters, gamers will embark on a dangerous journey across exotic terrain and well-known comic book locations like Atlantis, the Shield Heli-Carrier and the Skrull home world in an attempt to defy the world’s most notorious Super Villains.
One of the most important implementations on the Wii is the Advanced Gesture-based Combat System which pushes the capabilities of the Wii-mote and Nunchuk controllers. Players can even chain gestures together to create very powerful attack combos. With the Wii-mote, players can swipe upwards for upper cut punches and kicks, swipe down for stun attacks, sweep left or right for trip attacks, jab forward for heavy attacks and shake for quick, light attacks. Further, attack powers are custom for each character and are mapped to the Wii-mote gestures, and the Nunchuk can be used for picking up objects, throwing, blocking, dodging/rolling as well as movement via the analog stick. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for the Wii will support 480p Progressive Scan, full 16x9 widescreen format and Dolby surround sound.

Official Wii Launch Press Release [ Nintendo ]
|
Nintendo will reshape the home entertainment and video game landscape with the launch of its heralded Wii home video game console. Wii will go on sale in the Americas on November 19th and Japan on December 2nd - European launch date, price and software line up will be announced at a press conference in London tomorrow (Friday 15th).
Wii will be sold as an affordable, mass-consumer product at an MSRP in the US of just $249.99. The price includes one wireless Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuk controller and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disc, which anyone can play using simple physical movements, experienced or not.
Every Wii console will include another distinctive feature: a series of on-screen “channels" that make up the Wii Channel Menu, which makes the console approachable and customizable for everyone, from the most avid gamer to people who have never played before. The Wii Channel Menu is the starting point for all of the console’s functions. The “channels" offer a gateway to a rich variety of entertainment options. When connected to a TV, the Wii Channel Menu offers a simple interface letting users pick games to play, get news or weather, upload and send photos or even create playable caricatures of themselves to use in actual games. The variety of options available through the Wii Channel Menu motivates both gamers and non-gamers to turn on Wii’s power every day.
Wii is creating worldwide excitement with its unique control system, an inventive, first-of-its-kind controller whose position can be detected in a 3-D space. The new controller allows users pinpoint target in games or move through the Wii Channel Menu with precision and ease. This intuitive control system will be understood immediately by everyone, regardless of their previous experience with video games. With this one small controller, Wii makes games both easier and more intense than anything previously experienced. For example, in the Wii Sports tennis game players swing the Wii Remote like a racket to hit the ball, as in real life. They can add topspin or slice the ball just by angling their hands and wrist like they would in a real match.
“Wii reinvents games for the devoted player," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “But more importantly, Wii breaks the wall separating players from non-players by delivering the best game experiences for the most affordable price. We believe the next leap is games for the masses – young and old, gamer or non, alone, with a friend or with the whole family."
Fils-Aime made his remarks in New York, shortly after Nintendo executives in Japan announced Wii will launch there on Dec 2nd priced at 25,000 yen. Both announcements come ahead of a European press conference during which Nintendo will unveil specific detail around the console’s launch in Europe.
Between launch day and Dec. 31, Wii owners across America will enjoy a robust lineup of 30 software titles, with selections for everyone from video game veterans to newcomers. Some top Nintendo launch titles include Wii Sports, a compilation of tennis, baseball, golf and bowling; The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess; and Excite Truck. While publishers are free to set their own prices for games, first-party Nintendo titles will have an MSRP of $49.99. Wii’s self-loading media bay also can play the entire library of more than 530 Nintendo GameCube titles from day one.
Third-party developers around the world have lined up to provide unprecedented support for Wii, “I believe the Wii will attract new and casual gamers to the world of interactive entertainment," says Larry Probst, Chairman and CEO, Electronic Arts. “It’s a fun, easy and economical system that will become a bridge to gaming for mainstream audiences. At EA, we are putting more support behind the Wii than any Nintendo hardware launch since the Super NES."
Additional information about the list of Virtual Console games and the pricing structure will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Nintendo Officially Confirms US Wii Launch Details [ Nintendo ]
|
At the press conference being held right now in New York City, Nintendo has officially made it...erm...official. The Wii will indeed hit the Americas on November 19th at a price of $249.99, with Wii Sports packed in. The console will be available in only one color at launch - white - and will receive the majority shipment from Nintendo in the country. Nintendo also announced that the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Excite Truck will both be launch titles. Several 3rd parties such as Ubisoft, Midway, Konami, EA, Activision, and Vivendi have signed on for the launch, with Vivendi bringing Ice Age 2, newly announced at the conference.
The Virtual Console details will mirror that of Japan, with 30 games at launch, and 10 more games added each month afterwards. They will be available for purchase through a points card you can purchase at stores, or over the internet via credit card. A 2000 point card will be available for $20. NES games will cost 500 Wii points, 800 points for SNES games, and 1000 for N64 games.
Nintendo is now showing off the various channels of the Wii's interface. The Disc channel will be where one can play Wii and GameCube games. Wii Shop will be where Virtual Console games can be purchased. Downloads will be stored on the console's flash memory, and can then be played forever. The Mii Channel will be where one can make their special Wii avatar for use in games such as Wii Sports, and can be downloaded to the Wii Remote for bringing to others' houses. The Wii Photo channel will utilize SD memory cards so one can view their digital photos on Wii. Movies will also be able to be downloaded to Wii. The console will also be able to browse the web via Opera's browser designed for the console - however, it must be purchased with Wii points to use.
Reggie then held a Q&A session to ask about the console's details. Wii Remotes will cost $39.99, with Nunchaku units retailing for $19.99 (more than likely, this means the classic controller will retail for this price as well). The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GameCube will, shockingly, not launch day and date with the Wii, but will hit stores a month later, on December 11th. Third-party companies will price their games "appropriately", but Nintendo is hoping all will continue the $49.99 price standard Nintendo is setting. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will still be free on Wii.
Metroid Prime 3 has officially been delayed, as it will now come in 2007. There will also be no GameCube-like dead spots with the console, as there will be a steady stream of games throughout the lifespan of Wii. Pokémon Battle Revolution will be the first online game for Wii, which will launch shortly after the Wii's launch. For our Canadian friends, 2,000 Wii points will be equivalent to $24 Canadian.
Stay tuned for more, including the official press release from Nintendo, as well as new screenshots and information from several Wii titles.

At the press conference just held in Japan, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata officially confirmed the launch details of the Nintendo Wii for the country. The Wii will launch on December 2nd, which - if the leaked US date holds true - would have the console release after the US launch of November 19th, and far later than the Japanese launch of the PlayStation 3, set to hit stores in Japan on November 11th. The console will cost 25000 yen, which equates to around $212. Other details revealed were a firm pricing of games for the Virtual Console and it's games, with NES games retailing for 500 yen ($5), SNES games on sale for 800 yen ($7), and N64 games for 1,000 yen ($10). Also revealed was that the company would have 60 games available for the Virtual Console by the end of the year: 30 from Nintendo's consoles, and 30 from the Turbografix-16 and Sega Genesis. Nintendo also revealed that 10 new Virtual Consoles would be available for download every month. Virtual Console games would be available either via purchasing credits at stores, or over the internet via credit card.
Stay tuned tomorrow (around 9 AM) as Nintendo holds their US press conference, which will likely confirm the company's November 19th US launch for $249.99.
UPDATE: A press release from Nintendo of Japan has just confirmed the contents of the Wii sales package. The Wii will come with a console, Wii remote, nunchaku unit, AC adapter, A/V cables, sensor bar, vertical stand, a stand for the sensor bar, and two AA batteries (for the controller). This means that Wii Sports will not be available with the console, differing from the US, if the leaked report holds true. Also revealed would be that the Wii Remote alone will cost 3,800 yen (around $32, meaning likely around a $30-$35 MSRP in North America), and Nunchaku units, as well as the Wii's classic controller both retailing for 1,900 yen (about $16 US, which means a likely $20 MSRP).
UPDATE 2: Nintendo has revealed that game prices in Japan will be between 4,800 yen and 6,800 yen ($41-$58). The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be available at launch for 6,800 yen while Wii Sports, confirmed to not be a pack-in, will retail for 4,800 yen.
UPDATE 3: Just confirmed will be that Wario Ware: Smooth Moves and Pokémon Battle Revolution will both be launch titles with the Wii in Japan. Wario Ware will retail for 5,800 yen, while Pokémon will be the full 6,800 yen MSRP.
UPDATE 4: Nintendo has just revealed a new video showcasing some Wii games, which you can check out right here. Shown off for the first time are the new bowling and boxing games in Wii Sports, a brand-new scuba diving game, a new game called Wing Island (which seems to be based off of the Wii Sports Airplane demo), the first look at Harvest Moon Wii, new footage of Fire Emblem Wii, a new game called The Dog Island, where you play as (guess!) a dog, the first footage of Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess footage.
UPDATE 5: Nintendo has just opened their official Japanese Wii website at Wii.com, which has some videos available showing off the Wii's interface for the very first time. The Wii's interface features a very clean, white, Apple-like look, allowing you to customize an avatar for yourself for games such as Wii Sports, browse news and weather, and surf the web. Also revealed will be that Wii Connect 24 will be able to connect with your PC and Mobile Phone, as well as the new Wii Channel for surfing and shopping. Also announced is a new game called "My First Wii" (GREAT title!), which is made up of various mini-games, most of which were tech demos featured back at E3 (including the Duck Hunt-esque target shooting game). A release list of software is also available Here, which reveals a few new games (most of which are untitled), and confirms that Super Paper Mario has indeed been moved to Wii.
UPDATE 6: New Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Pokémon Battle Revolution trailers are now available. The new Zelda trailer reveals that the legendary Master Sword will be wielded by Link in the game. Check them out Here.
UPDATE 7: Check out the Wii's Japanese packaging right here.

According to the newspaper the Seattle Post Intelligencer, we can expect Nintendo to announce today at their US press conference that the Wii will launch on November 19 at a price of $249. Also expected are announcements of 25 games available this year, at an MSRP of $49.99 apiece, with 4 million units expected to ship before the end of 2006. They also state that the system will come with a pack-in of Wii Sports, with minigames including baseball, golf, tennis, and (previously unknown) bowling. Classic gamers can expect to have about 30 games available at launch to download on the Virtual Console, costing about $5-10 apiece.
Most interestingly, the article reports that the Wii will also utilize various media channels for to turn the console into more of a media hub, featuring a photo channel to display digital photos, media channels for news and weather, and a web browser built-in.
Again, this is an UNCONFIRMED report from this newspaper. It seems quite likely that this is indeed the real thing, but we can't guarantee its accuracy. Stick around through all of today as Nintendo drops the major bombs we've all been waiting for.
UPDATE: IGN just made it official, this is now confirmed news. Stay tuned for more.
UPDATE 2: We're not sure anyone knows just what is going on. The New York Times and Seattle PI have removed their articles and CNN.com (typically up-to-date on Wii info) has not updated anything. Likewise, the information for Japan's launch is somewhat at odds with the US information, mostly concerning price. Tomorrow can't come fast enough.

Heroes of Mana Revealed for DS [ Famitsu ]
|
Square-Enix has been showing a lot of love for the Nintendo DS today. After today's reveals of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wing and It's a Wonderful World, another huge game from the company has been revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine: Heroes of Mana. The game looks to be very similar to it's predecessor, Children of Mana, as it will be a top-down action-RPG using 2D sprites, however this new game will be set as a prequel to Seiken Densetsu II (Legend of Mana), meaning that it will be official Mana series canon. No other information was given about the game, but stay tuned for more when it should be shown off at either tonight's Nintendo press conference in Japan (set to go off at about 1 AM EST) or next week at the Tokyo Game Show. Check out the game's first scans below.

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles Announced for Wii [ Famitsu ]
|
So maybe future Wii owners don't have Resident Evil 5 coming to their system right now, but it looks like the Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles rumor was indeed true. It will be an action game headed by Kawada Masachika (who ported RE4 to the PS2). Although there is nothing official yet about characters, Jill Valentine will likely be one of the main characters. A number of others are likely to return as well. The Wiimote seems to manipulate your weapons (the first Wii lightgun game maybe?). Umbrella Chronicles will surely show up at TGS, and as soon as we can find the Famitsu scan, we'll have it up for you all.
Update: We have now gained the Famitsu scan for the game. It doesn't show off much of the game or exactly what genre it will be (a standard RE game, an over-the-shoulder game ala Resident Evil 4, or a lightgun arcade shooter like Resident Evil: Gun Survivor)

New Samurai Warrior Wave Details, Three New Wii Games [ Famitsu ]
|
Famitsu has revealed the first details on Samurai Warrior Wave from Koei. The game will take place primarily in first person, using the Wiimote as a sword, gun, or other weapon to mow down your enemies. You can select from a number of generals that have been in the series so far, changing the storyline accordingly. No US release is announced, but it's set for Japan sometime this year.
Famitsu also revealed three new Koei games for the Wii. Mahjong Wii, New RPG, and Horse Action Racing. I think everyone's particular interest will concern the "New RPG." We're looking forward to more, and will probably see some of this at TGS soon.

Two of the best selling DS games in Japan are Tamagotchi Corner Shop (a million seller already) and its sequel by a third party. Now Bandai Namco has announced that they will bringing Tamagotchi no Pika Pkia Daityouryou! to Japan sometime this year. In this mini-game filled console version, you are on a board game setup and must cross sections of it and try and earn ratings to become President of Tamagotchi Planet. Odd premise, but our friends in the Land of the Rising Sun will probably eat this one up. Stay tuned for more details.

New Final Fantasy and It's a Wonderful World for DS [ Shonen Jump ]
|
The latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine reveals a major bombshell from Japan's biggest third-party company, Square-Enix, for the Nintendo DS. Namely, two games from two of the company's biggest franchises: Final Fantasy and a new game from the Kingdom Hearts team. First announced is a brand-new side-story game from the latest Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy XII, entitled Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. The game takes place after the original game, and will center on lead characters Vaan and Penelo and their adventures.
The second game, "It's a Wonderful World," is not set in the Kingdom Hearts universe as previously thought. Rather, it is only being made by the Kingdom Hearts team. The main character is a boy named Neku and the game is set in real world Japan in the Shibuya region (with famous locales like Scramble Crossing, the most packed crosswalk in the world; and the 109 shopping mall, the most financially successful shopping mall in the world). Neku, who meets a girl named Tsuki, can read the hearts of others. They end up in Shibuya and must play a mysterious game. The two will face off against monsters and have battles on both screens at once. Battles will affect one another, but how is currently unknown. The game seems to be an action RPG. The character designs are also being done by Tetsuya Nomura, who previously worked on both Kingdom Hearts games for PS2, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA, and Final Fantasies VII, VIII, X, and X-2.
Check out the scan revealing both blockbuster titles below. We should hopefully get more information about these games at Nintendo's press conference in Japan this evening, as well as next week at the Tokyo Game Show.

Fullmetal Alchemist Hits DS in US [ Destineer ]
|
One of the top-rated anime programs on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim comes to the Nintendo DS for the first time as Destineer today announced Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy, slated for release this fall.
Based on one of the hottest anime series ever introduced, Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy is a side-scrolling action/adventure game that puts players in the role of Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist on a quest to defeat the evil Homunculi and acquire the fabled Philosopher’s Stone.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy integrates an innovative twist via the use of alchemy - which is the ability to transform objects from one form into another - and its strategic impact on the game. Whether repelling defenders, removing obstacles or engaged in battle, all six characters have unique and devastating alchemy attacks, which range in scope from bolts of fire and stone spikes, to monstrous cannons and gigantic fists. By holding down the alchemy button on the Nintendo DS touch screen, players can transform their initial alchemy creation into a mega-weapon of tremendous proportions and impact.
Covering the entire Fullmetal Alchemist storyline, Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy has two modes of play: Story Mode, which follows the saga of the Elric brothers and includes cinematics and battle sequences from the TV series; and Character Mode which allows players to assume the role of one of the six characters. Upon finishing the game with a particular character, players are rewarded with a special character cinematic from the TV show.

Nintendo Putting Their Wii in a Box? [ IGN Wii ]

It's been heavily rumored that the production of Nintendo's Wii console is very far along, to the point where a launch potentially may come in the next few weeks. Now, we might have confirmation of this fact, as an IGN Board poster has revealed he has applied for a position with Nintendo to start packaging the Wii console. Job openings have been announced for Nintendo's North Bend, WA production plant, looking for a production assistant, obviously due to the heavy Wii production Nintendo is about to put forth. Splinter Cell Double Agent at Wii Launch [ IGN Wii ]

The goods don't stop rolling in from UbiSoft, who has easily become the biggest supporter of Nintendo's new console. If they didn't already have enough games at launch or in the launch window, Splinter Cell Double Agent will now be launching with the system. The Wii version will be based on the PS2 and GameCube build but have updated graphics and Wii-specific controls. UbiSoft did not elaborate on specifics of the controls, but said the game would use the nunchuck and remote. One example was of Sam Fisher picking a lock by shaking the remote. No online component is planned for the Wii version, and UbiSoft has not yet decided on WiiConnect24 features for it. Hit the link for first screenshots.

Nintendo has Wii Chipset, Could Launch This Month [ Joystiq ]
|
IBM has revealed that the Nintendo Wii chipset, codenamed "Broadway", has been in Nintendo's hands since July of this year. According to Ron Martino, director of IBM Technology Collaboration Solutions, the company has delivered a "significant amount" of the final chipset to Nintendo for use in the Wii console.
What does this mean? Well, if the chips have been shipping since July, Nintendo without a doubt has a substantial amount of finalized hardware. If this is true, Nintendo could potentially launch in merely a few weeks...perhaps even by the end of September.
Martino would not comment on the chipset's power compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but did say it would be about 20 percent more power-efficient than Gecko, the chipset used in the Nintendo GameCube.
This all but confirms that next week, on September 14th, Nintendo will make known what the world has been waiting for: the price of the Wii, and its release date. And if this news is true, the release date could be even sooner than we think.

Mario Celebrates His Birthday with Two New Games [ Nintendo ]
|
What birthday gift do you give the video game icon who has everything? In September, Nintendo superstar Mario celebrates his birthday; in his honor, Nintendo releases two new Mario games for Nintendo DS. Incidentally, Mario isn't revealing his exact age, but let's just say he's been around the block – and through the pipe – a few times.
On Sept. 13, Mario Hoops 3-on-3 brings a fast-moving basketball game to the Nintendo DS hand-held gaming system with all the crazy power-ups players have come to expect from Mario sports games. Two weeks later, Mario's longtime nemesis, Donkey Kong, causes trouble again in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, a game complete with a special appearance by Mario's first love, Pauline.
"Like Mario himself, Nintendo DS keeps going strong," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Our September releases kick off a flurry of great DS games that continues through the holiday season. Happy birthday, boss."
Mario Hoops 3-on-3 puts the ball back in players' hands. Using the stylus and touch screen of Nintendo DS, players can execute special passes and cool dribbles as they play through tournaments to unlock new characters, courts and features. It's regular three-on-three basketball, with the crazy Nintendo twist of stars and shells that players can use against their opponents. Best of all, each character has his or her own signature move that players execute by tapping out a special symbol on the touch screen twice. Watch out for huge dunks and alley-oops.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis brings Mario's original nemesis back in contact with his first love. Pauline, the original heroine from the 1981 Donkey Kong arcade game, makes her triumphant return after 25 years in retirement. And just as before, Donkey Kong goes nuts and kidnaps her. But this time, it's up to a legion of Mini Mario toys to save the day. Players use the touch screen to guide the Mini Marios as they make their way to the top of an amusement park to rescue Pauline. Players can design their own level maps and share them with others via Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service.

On their daily podcast, the guys from VGM Fusion interviewed Andre Vu, a producer at Ubisoft, who revealed the first details on the upcoming Far Cry game set for the Nintendo Wii. The game, now entitled Far Cry: Vengeance, will be an "enhanced port" of the Xbox version, Far Cry: Instincts. Playing as genetically-enhanced military man Jack Carver, players will use the Wii Remote to shoot enemies, as well as use knife and claw attacks. Thrusting the remote forward will allow you to zoom in while using the game's sniper weapons, and pulling up on the nunchaku unit will allow players to jump. The game will also make use of 480p with 16x9 widescreen support. Ubisoft is also testing the game for online play as well as WiiConnect 24 support. The game will be officially revealed at the now-infamous Nintendo press event to be held on the 14th, so you can be sure we'll have full coverage of that. Ok, so it's a little late in the day for this, but, I'm gonna be honest, I forgot what day it was today. The actual date I forgot, not the significance of the date. But, it is September 5, and that could only mean one thing - our very own fearless leader (well, everybody else's fearless leader...my general partner) turns 22 today!
I've known Silver for a long time. Some would say too long. In fact, we played little league together. We've been good friends since high school, and began this site together four years ago, and I can honestly say that without him, this would not be a reality. Silver is responsible in no small part for where we are today, and I couldn't be happier to have him as both my partner and my best friend.
Sorry about the delay, buddy...you know I've always sucked at keeping track of days. Next time I'm home, dinner's on me (and you have documented evidence of it). Stop by the chat or forums to wish Silver a happy 22.

As expected, Nintendo has announced another new DS Lite for Japan. This one will be bundled with Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The DS Lite plus game will retail for 16,800 yen, or approximately $143. The DS Lite is a different kind of metallic black color from the just released Jet Black and will have sparkly images of the two new legendary Pokemon on the top of the lid. No word on a US release yet since there isn't even a date for the games, but expect the Pokemon Center site here, or maybe Nintendo World, to pick this one up once the games get a domestic release. Hit the link for the spiffy images.

Nintendo Prepares Global Press Events [ Nintendo ]
|
Mark your calendars. On September 14, Nintendo will be holding simultaneous press events in the US, Japan, and London. Although Nintendo has not come right out and confirmed that these events will definitely be the venues for the final Wii launch date and price announcements, it seems highly probable that the company will indeed take the opportunity to reveal the launch information to the world. After all, why go out of the way to set up three events in three regions of the world if it isn't big news? Nintendo's exact launch plans for each territory will likely be revealed once and for all at the respective locations. We know that Reggie is hosting the US event, and it's probably safe to assume that Satoru Iwata will be hosting the Japanese one. Your guess is as good as ours as to who might host the London event. Stay tuned to the Café for all the news from the events as they unfold.

Resident Evil Wii Confirmed, First Details [ Capcom ]
|
The Capcom news we've been waiting for since E3 has finally begun to surface - Resident Evil WILL be making its way to the Wii, in an all-new exclusive. In an interview with RE fansite REHorror, as well as information from several other sources, actress Tara Platt confirmed that she is voicing Jill Valentine in Biohazard: Umbrella Corp Chronicles (Japanese title). The game will act as a lead-in prequel to RE4, following the events of the supposedly defunct Umbrella Corporation. The game will feature the return of zombies, or at least zombie-like creatures, as well as evil plant things. Platt also confirmed a wide array of weaponry, suggesting that Jill is indeed a playable character, if not the main focus of the story. The game will, of course, utilize the Wii remote for aiming, and presumably other functions, and context-sensitive action buttons introduced in RE4 will also return. The game will feature two gameplay modes, Scenario and Arcade, though details are unclear. Expect more from Capcom on what will no-doubt be a huge attention-grabbing game, possibly this month at TGS.

|
Atlus today announced the acquisition of the North American publishing rights to Etrian Odyssey, a ground-breaking RPG for the Nintendo DS known as Sekaiju no Meikyuu in Japan.
Directed by Kazuya Niinou (Trauma Center: Under the Knife), with story design by Shigeo Komori (Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner) and sound design by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro (Actraiser, Streets of Rage), Etrian Odyssey is currently scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2007.

Nine character classes! Create a woodland survivalist, shield-bearing protector, whip-wielding dark hunter, or any of a half-dozen other types. Populate an adventurer’s guild with up to 20 characters! Turn-based strategic combat! Acquire and collect more than 20 battle skills for your adventuring party of five characters. All-star production staff! Direction by Kazuya Niinou (Trauma Center: Under the Knife), story design by Shigeo Komori (Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner), and sound design by Yuzo Koshiro (Actraiser, Streets of Rage). Beautiful 3D graphics! Say goodbye to the dank, gray corridors of past dungeon RPGs as you step into warm, inviting, forest environments rendered in an original 3D engine.
