New Spyborgs Trailer [ Capcom ]

At last year's CAPTIVATE event, Capcom revealed Spyborgs, a game developed by new developer Bionic Games exclusive to the Wii. While the game looked cool, apparently the negative backlash was enough for Bionic to go back to the drawing board and transform the game into a new, darker experience, and we gotta say, it looks even cooler. Check out the brand-new Spyborgs, via YouTube, below.

Capcom Announces Ace Attorney: Investigations [ Capcom ]

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth takes the Ace Attorney series from the courtroom to the crime scene, leaving the legal battle behind while bringing the action to various crime scenes.

This time around, the player takes on the role of famed prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, a memorable rival of charismatic legal eagle Phoenix Wright. Edgeworth actively investigates crime scenes in order to pursue the truth behind each case. By solving the challenging puzzles presented him, Edgeworth will work with the police to bring criminals to justice.

Users will be able to directly control the character avatar’s movement on the scene with the arrow key or touch screen and investigate the crime scenes freely. If, during the course of an investigation, users find contradictions, they will be able to obtain new information by presenting decisive evidence. In some cases, users will identify clues and conduct examinations of material witnesses. On these occasions, users will have to uncover the truth behind the crimes using collected information, the evidence, and logic.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth is composed of several lengthy episodes. In the first episode, an argument in Edgeworth’s office results in a mysterious murder. Edgeworth, coming back from a one-month business trip, enters his office and encounters the body of the man who was shot. He is then threatened by someone who is presumed to be the suspect with a gun from behind. In the second episode, Edgeworth wakes up after being knocked out due to an air pocket accident inside a luxury airliner flying through turbulence. Shaken by the flashback of nightmarish past memories, he opens the onboard elevator’s door, only to find a male corpse. At this very moment a cabin attendant witnesses the scene and Edgeworth is made a suspect of murder!

Miles Edgeworth will have to confront suspects and get to the bottom of his cases by collecting information and evidence through detective work between key locations. Also, in the “logic” mode that symbolizes Edgeworth’s logical inferences, users can discover new information and evidence by combining two pieces of information out of the collected pieces. The real culprit that will be revealed through investigations and witnesses will be confronted in a ‘battle’ similarly fought (Testimony – Pursuit – Press – Confront) to that of the ‘Court Battle’ in the Ace Attorney series (Testimony – Cross Examination) to expose the contradictions.

Red Steel 2 Teaser Art and Press Release [ Ubisoft ]

Red Steel 2 returns with an artistic style and flair created just for Wii. Set in a desert-bound, high-tech metropolis, Red Steel 2 is a revolution in the action-fighting genre, taking full advantage of the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus accessory. Your movements are faithfully replicated on-screen, putting the emphasis on swinging, shooting and fun! With the ability of the Wii MotionPlus to sense the strength of a swing, you will literally be able to make an impact on your adversaries through power and precision.

"Red Steel was a unique opportunity for Ubisoft to work in tandem with Nintendo to create a title exclusively for the launch of the Wii console," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing US at Ubisoft. "Red Steel 2 is another milestone for the company as it is the first Ubisoft title with full Wii MotionPlus integration.”

Just as Red Steel broke ground as the only third-party brand created for the launch of the Wii, Red Steel 2 will be the must-have game of Holiday 2009 for those who wish to stretch their own capacities and fully experience a game that was built from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii MotionPlus.

Red Steel 2 is a MotionPlus Go [ Nintendo Power ]

Love it or hate it, Red Steel was one of the premiere Wii games at launch. Widely anticipated for its unique gun/sword gameplay based system, then cast down for unresponsive controls by many, it was one of those games that we wanted to be great, and just couldn't quite get over the hump.

That could change now as Nintendo Power gives us a first look at Red Steel 2. The game will not be a direct sequel to the Yakuza-based original, but rather a series reboot (can you really say that after one game?). Running at 60 frames per second, the game will take place in fictional Calderda city, in what appears to be a mix of Samurai and classic Western gunslinger action.

Utilizing Nintendo's MotionPlus control add-on, rumors have it that dual-wielding gun and sword simultaneously could be a reality. Expect the game to be fully cel-shaded, like last gen's overlooked gem XIII.

Additionally, the subpar multiplayer from the first seems to have been cut altogether, and Ubisoft is again aiming for a Teen rating.

Two NFL Stars Cover Madden NFL 10 [ Electronic Arts ]

Electronic Arts announced today that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will both be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 10, set to hit retail shelves on Friday, August 14. For the first time in the 21-year history of the Madden NFL franchise, two athletes will grace the cover of the award-winning football franchise. Leaders on their respective sides of the field, Fitzgerald and Polamalu epitomize the offensive and defensive battles that take place on every play in the NFL…the Fight for Every Yard.

Larry Fitzgerald will be the second athlete to have been featured on both the Madden NFL cover (Madden NFL 10) and NCAA Football cover (NCAA Football 2005) the first being Shaun Alexander. The three-time Pro Bowl selection and 2009 Pro Bowl MVP reached career highs in reception yards (1,431) and touchdowns (12) in 2008, and set NFL post season records for yards (546), receptions (30), and TDs (7), as he led the Arizona Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII. Fitzgerald’s athleticism and unyielding focus often result in acrobatic catches that change the course of a game.

Troy Polamalu is a 2-time Super Bowl Champion and one of the most recognizable players in the NFL today. Anchoring the Steelers’ vaunted defense, Polamalu frustrates opposing offenses with his All-Pro speed, agility and high-impact tackles. Known for his quick reactions on the field and unrivaled preparation off the field, Polamalu is one of the few defensive players in the NFL who can rush the quarterback, shutdown a receiver in man-to-man, or drop back into zone coverage; making it necessary for the offense to account for him on every single play. Sharing the NFL record for most sacks (3) in a single game by a safety, Polamalu also recorded seven interceptions and 73 total tackles during the Steelers Super Bowl XLIII championship season.

This year, Madden NFL 10 arrives on the Wii with breath-taking visuals that will captivate the entire family. Completely redesigned and built from the ground up, Madden NFL 10 introduces a unique art style that will define the look of sports games on the Wii. Bright new stadiums showcase details of NFL fields, plus all-new player models embody characteristics of your favorite athletes. Madden NFL 10 epitomizes what fun looks like on the Wii, delivering the most social and dynamic experience from the franchise to date. Get together with friends and crown a “King of the Couch” during your pre-game tailgate party or during halftime. Quick, exciting game modes ensure that anytime is the right time for Madden NFL 10 on the Wii.

Nintendo Rules March, and DSi Dominates [ Nintendo ]

Nintendo's Wii home console and the Nintendo DS portable video game system comfortably led U.S. sales in March, according to data from the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Pokémon Platinum Version for Nintendo DS emerged as the No. 2 video game of the month, with nearly 805,000 units sold.

Wii tallied sales of nearly 601,000 in March, while Nintendo DS sold more than half a million, even in advance of the April 5 launch of the new Nintendo DSi system. Both Wii and Nintendo DS extended their lead as the best-selling video game systems of this generation.

Four games published by Nintendo finished in the top 10 best-sellers of March. These include Pokémon Platinum Version at No. 2, Wii Fit at No. 3 with more than 541,000 sold, Wii Play at No. 8 with more than 281,000 sold and Mario Kart Wii at No. 9 with more than 278,000 sold.

Early U.S. sales of the new Nintendo DSi hand-held system are ahead of those for Nintendo DS Lite, according to Nintendo's internal tracking numbers. In its first week, Nintendo DSi sold 435,000 in the United States. After the same amount of time on the U.S. market after its launch, Nintendo DS Lite had sold 226,300 systems. These numbers demonstrate that the Nintendo DS brand remains strong, and that consumers continue to look for the best new experiences on their portable video game systems.

So far this year, video game industry revenues are on par with 2008, but Nintendo remains a key driver. Without Nintendo products, the industry would be down 14 percent for the year, according to the NPD Group.

WiiWare Getting Driift [ Konami ]

Konami has announced a new multi-player racing title entitled Driift (working title), which will be released as a WiiWare title in July.

Viewed from above, Driift is a fast-paced racer that allows up to eight players to race each other, using cartoon-style chars. Featuring twelve different tracks based on four themed environments – cityscape, hills, snow and a desert oasis – players can also select one of 32 vehicles from four categories. Each category is tailored for use within the different environments, with variations of speed, acceleration and handling and grip levels making specific vehicles ideal for particular locations.

Driift’s multi-player modes allow users to play using combinations of Wii Remotes, Nunchucks and Classic Controllers, and seven game modes are on offer. These range from the single-player and multi-player championships, and Team Race, wherein participants are divided into two teams, with the winner determined by those that accrue the most points. The VIP mode elects one player per team as a VIP vehicle, who must be protected at all costs from the opposition cars, with the removal of the VIP car resulting in a win for the attacking team.

Driift also uses ‘Contamination’ where a player is marked contagious and must contaminate very other player within a set period, while the ‘Cold Potato’ mode charges the user with collecting said vegetable and holding on to it for as long as possible! Finally, the ‘Meteorite’ option sees players embarking on a normal race, while trying to avoid a series of meteors as they fall from the sky.

Iwata: Wii Sports Resort in July [ Reuters ]

With the Wii not doing so hot lately in Japan, Nintendo pres Satoru Iwata was taken to task by Reuters about what the company plans for the future of this generation's biggest-selling home console. According to Iwata, the answer seems to be simple: Wii Sports Resort. Iwata revealed that the long-awaited sequel to the best-selling game of all time will finally be coming out in North America and Europe this July, with a Japanese release the previous month in June. Of course, the bigger question isn't in regards to the software, but what it comes with: the Wii MotionPlus attachment that adds additional motion sensitivity to the Wii Remote, and is being used for several of the year's biggest Wii releases. Nintendo initially stated that MotionPlus would ship with Wii Sports Resort, so we'll have to wait and see if this holds true.

The Rabbids Return to Wii [ Nintendo Power ]

The latest issue of Nintendo Power has officially confirmed that Ubisoft's super-popular Raving Rabbids will be returning for the fourth straight year, and will remain Nintendo-exclusive. However, this time around, it won't be a compilation of various minigames. Rabbids Go Home is a new action-adventure that sees the Rabbids trying to get home to the Moon...or at least, that's where they assume home is. To accomplish this, they attempt to build a tower to the Moon using collected garbage. Players take the role of two Rabbids; one in a shopping cart, the other pushing it. They then ram into garbage to collect it, and can do their trademark scream to scare off NPCs. Players will also be able to collect items to increase the power of the Rabbids and their cart.

Silent Hill Confirmed for Wii [ Nintendo Power ]

Get ready to head back to the famed demonic town all over again. The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine has confirmed that the famed Silent Hill series is heading to the Wii, with the release of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a "re-imagining" of the classic first installment. Why re-imagining? Developer Climax is putting in several changes to the game to make it feel very much unlike the original, so it isn't a remake or port. While players will still take on the role of Harry Mason, searching for his daughter within Silent Hill, the biggest change is a new behavior-based progression system, as player actions and decisions can alter how the game progresses, what characters you'll meet, and what events will take place.

Also, there will be several Wii Remote based actions: Harry aims his flashlight with the Wii Remote, and calls from his cellphone will emanate from the Wii Remote speaker. What's more, the Wii Remote will be used to directly interact with the environment to solve puzzles. Other additions will be the use of the Z button to break through windows and doors while escaping from the town's numerous demonic enemies, and the ability to fully explore the town, making for a more open-ended experience. However, the biggest change may be the total removal of combat from the game, as Harry will only be able to flee from enemies. Some may see this as a tremendous omission, but considering the quality of the combat in previous Silent Hills, coupled with waggle, it may not be all that bad of a thing. For more details, check out the latest issue of Nintendo Power, on sale soon.
