We're Pretty Sure It's Not Link's Baby [ Nintendo ]
|
You may be wondering what the title to this news post means. Well, when you click below you might find out. However, I am going to tell you right now anyway. Apparently the new Zelda game will not only feature giant boars, chickens, Zelda with a sword, and lots of animals but it will also feature pregnant villagers in Link's home town. We are pretty sure though that it isn't Link's baby. Yeah that was a bad joke, but you know you're smiling right now. The Legend of Zelda will be shown off at E3 in a few weeks and GCCafé will be on hand to bring you awesome free media. Hit the links to check out the new screens.

Not content with just releasing GoldenEye: Rogue Agent for the home consoles, EA has set its sights (pardon the pun) on the handheld market with its release of Rogue Agent for the Nintendo DS.

Don't let its appearance fool you. Meteos may look like a run-of-the-mill puzzler at first glance, but it's anything but average. As multicolored blocks fall from the sky, your goal is to line up three or more like pieces. Instead of simply disappearing, however, the blocks rocket into space, carrying with them anything that happens to be above. If there is too much weight for the blocks to reach escape velocity, you must quickly put together additional combos to give them a boost. Meteos will be released for the Nintendo DS on June 27th. Hit the link for the boxart.

Nintendogs Gets Perfect Score [ Nintendo ]
|
Animal lovers and Nintendo fans in Japan are proving that it's almost impossible to say no to a puppy. Nintendogs, the new puppy simulator for Nintendo DS, hit Japanese stores April 21. In its first week, it boosted daily sales of hand-held Nintendo DS systems more than five times the average daily sales rate of the previous seven weeks. It has become the fastest-selling DS game ever for Nintendo while receiving top marks from critics.
Nintendogs, which launches in North America later this year, lets players pick a puppy from a variety of breeds and train it to chase a ball, go for a walk or learn tricks. The realistic puppies respond to voice commands and to a rub or a tap on the touch screen of Nintendo DS. Nintendogs makes use of amazing artificial intelligence. But the appeal of Nintendogs goes beyond cuteness. Four notoriously tough game reviewers scrutinized Nintendogs for Weekly Famitsu, Japan's leading video game magazine. All four reviewers returned with top scores of 10, for an extraordinary overall perfect score of 40.

British developmer Frontier announced today that they are working on a new game starring claymation icons Wallace and Gromit, entitled Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. The game will release in conjunction with the feature film of the same name, and will be available for all consoles, including the Nintendo GameCube. This will be the second Wallace and Gromit title for the GameCube, after the critically-acclaimed Project Zoo back in 2003. The player is challenged to unravel the amazing secret of the Were-Rabbit on their day and night journey through the vast locations, pitting their wits against a shadowy adversary and frantically battling his minions in a barnstorming adventure. Naturally help is, as ever, at hand from a superb array of "cracking contraptions" concocted by that master of invention; Wallace. Expect more on this game at E3 in 3 weeks.

Nintendo also has announced that they will release the dirst Nintendo DS Pokémon games this Holiday season. The names of the games are Pokémon Pearl and Diamond. Japanese Sales Figures (4/24) [ Media Create ]
|
The release of Nintendogs and Naruto for the Nintendo DS have sky rocketed the hardware sales of the popular hand held system. In recent weeks, Nintendo had failed miserably to get even two software titles on the top ten list. This week, they have dominated both the hardware and software charts with six titles in the top ten for software and sales for all their hardware up. Nintendogs released with three versions, selling an awesome one hundred and eighty thousand units sold. Surely the perfect score in Famitsu weekly helped boost the sales of the game over there. Nintendogs releases here in North America on later this year, although it does not have an official release date yet. Be sure to watch the Café during E3 week for awesome gameplay videos of Nintendogs. Hit the links for the sales figures.

According to Gamespot and various sales figures, the Nintendo DS has surpassed Nintendo's own predictions even earlier than expected. While Nintendo planned to sell 5 Million DS's worldwide by the end of March, they actually reached the milestone number in the middle of the month. The PSP, on the other hand, has sold a little more than half that amount, Sony announced today, with 2.87 million units sold in both the U.S. and Japan to date. The handheld war looks to be heating up, and it will be interesting to see what fuel both Nintendo and Sony add to the fire next month at E3.

Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo's venerable former president and current boardroom director, has announced that on June 29th, he will retire from the company after 55 years as part of the Big N. He made the decision due to his age (77 years old), as well as a "lack of stamina", and also he feels that the company is stable enough to leave in the hands of current president Satoru Iwata. Yamauchi will stay on board as an advisor, however, and will retain ownership of his stock in the company. He also refused his retirement benefit from the company (calculated between 1 and 1.5 billion yen) saying he believed it would be better used as part of the company's assets. Yamauchi is best known for Nintendo's first steps into the gaming industry, from the creation of the Famicom and NES to Nintendo's steps into the arcade market.

Yeah I know I said there wouldn't be any new banners before E3 but I just had a really good idea for my Advance Wars: Under Fire banner that I had been thinking about for a while. Now when I say this time there won't be any new banners before E3 I think I am telling the truth. Either way, from now on, new banners will not be getting their own news story. This way it's all the more fun for you guys, the readers, to be surprised when you come and see a new banner. This banner features my favorite fighter jet, the F-22 Raptor, the newest fighter in the United States Air Force. Currently the F-22 is not in service but it will be beginning next year. Hit the link to check it out.

Following its record breaking UK launch of 87,000 units in two days, the Nintendo DS continues its phenomenal sales success with UK gamers having snapped up over 200,000 units of the dual screen handheld console in just over six weeks since launch. Games sales also continue to be outstanding with Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare Touched! proving to be firm favourites. There are over sixteen titles now in stores and this initial success will be followed by the release of more great games including Yoshi Touch & Go from Nintendo on 6th May, Need for Speed Underground 2 from EA on 27h May and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith from Ubisoft also in May, along with many more to follow throughout 2005.
The success in the UK follows in the wake of exceptional sales in the US and Japan where over three million Nintendo DS units have been sold worldwide since launch. The three million number is being a bit conservative though. Two million DS have been sold in Japan and two hundred thousand in the UK, that would mean less than a million have been sold in North America and we know for a fact that isn't true. The North American sales for the Nintendo DS are closer to the four million mark. Nintendo of Japan has stated that their goal of six million sold worldwide by April had been achieved so apparently the left hand (NOE) is not talking to the right (NOJ). Either way, Nintendo DS sales are smashing the competition; the Playstation Portable.

So now you guys know what I do when I get really bored. I made two new banners last night and I reworked the Fire Emblem banner simply because I did not like it. It's probably worth it to note that the old Fire Emblem one was not done by me but by Carl. I know what you're saying, I didn't like it because I didn't make it myself. Maybe that is part of it, but I really just didn't like the feeling of. It didn't have my style and it stuck out from all the other ones (and not in a good way). The other banners I added are Geist and Killer 7. I really love how the Killer 7 banner turned out. Right now we have all Nintendo themed banners and two Capcom ones. In the future we will have other third party banners. There probably won't be a new banner until after E3. The total number we are up to now is thirty! And to think when we originally had this idea I was thinking we would never have more than ten. Click the links to see the new banners in the rotation (or just keep hitting refresh until you get them).

More New Zelda Info [ EGM ]
|
More info has surfaced on the new Legend of Zelda from the latest issue Electronic Gaming Monthly. The magazine features an interview with game director Eiji Aonuma, who details some more tasty tidbits on 2005's most anticipated game. First off, Link will not actually come from Hyrule, but from Taoru Village, the village mentioned in the article from Hobby Consolas. Hyrule has formed an alliance with the village, whose workers send crops and livestock to the kingdom in exchange for rupees. Every year, the village mayor must go to Hyrule in order to continue to build upon the relationship with the kingdom, but this year, the mayor cannot go - so Link is sent in his place. On the way there, something occurs to send our hero on his latest adventure, but exactly what was not revealed.
According to Aonuma, the game will have a much larger scope and scale than Ocarina of Time, greatly eclipsing that game in overall size. The combat will be greatly similar, for the most part, to Wind Waker, except for some new enhancements made to the parry counter system, and new moves like the downward stab seen in the GDC trailer.
Also, as expected, both Princess Zelda and Ganon will be appearing in the game. Zelda must be rescued again, as usual - however, that will not be the only task Link is faced with. Link will also gain the ability to speak with animals, which makes sense given all of the animal interaction seen in the latest screenshots and the GDC trailer. And last, but certainly not least: fishing is back. (YAY!)
Aonuma also stated that he has not decided on a title, or where exactly the game will fit in the Zelda timeline, but all of that should be revealed soon. The new Zelda, as has been stated hundreds of times before, will receive the utmost coverage here at the Café at E3 this year, and you can surely bet it will be the cornerstone of what we have to offer on our website and DVD. Two recently released Nintendo titles, Nintendogs for the Nintendo DS and Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki (GameCube), have opened extremely well. Nintendogs sold eighty thousand copies its first day on selves and Fire Emblem: Souen no Kiseki sold ninety thousand its first day. Official weekly sales will not be released until later this week but those numbers on their first day available should make those two games the number one and two games for software sales. Hardware sales for Nintendo DS and GameCube are both sure to rise. DS should most likely retake the top spot and GameCube sales get a much needed spike as well. GameCube this year in Japan has yet to break the one hundred thousand mark.

So where the heck has this game been since last E3? Seems like Nintendo had decided that they were going to keep this game pretty much quiet. However, just weeks away from E3, they have released a new trailer for the game. Hit the link below to check it out. DK King of Swing will be released later this year and will be shown off at E3 next month. Make sure to watch the Café for all the best E3 media. Below is a the plot outline of the game.
The normally quiet jungle is abuzz with excitement today, because it's time for the ceremony to choose the king of the jungle! Or at least it would be if King K. Rool hadn't stolen the special medallion meant for the winner. Donkey Kong and his friends must swing their way through the jungle to get the medallion back and, along the way, rescue Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Funky Kong from King K. Rool's minions.

Japanese Sales Figures (4/17) [ Media Create ]
|
Well, the sales figures are late this week because I had to redo the templates from scratch. My computer hard drive crashed on me this week and I lost all my data. Yes, I know, it's a sad thing. But anyway, from now on, Japanese Sales Figures will be up either Wednesday or Thursday like usual. This week, Nintendo DS fell a little bit in the sales department but it is still selling extremely well. Like last week, not may Nintendo titles made it in the top ten software sales. Then again, nothing really has been released as of late for Nintendo's systems. Click the links below for the sales charts.
Sales Charts:

Capcom has released the boxart to the upcoming Killer 7, one of the most anticipated titles for the GameCube this year, in both red and white versions, for reasons unknown. Perhaps there are two versions of this game. Either way, the game will be rated M for Mature, which is no suprise given the heavy amount of violent content seen in the trailers we've been posting. Players will play as Garcian Smith and his 6 seperate personalities as they blast their way through hideous creatures to uncover the mystery behind the Heaven's Smile organization. The game will release for the GameCube in June, and you can check out the boxarts below.

Not only has LucasArts and Ubisoft released a new trailer for us to see of the game, but it also now has an official rating as well. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the second game ever to get the ESRB rating of E10 . Having watched the trailer, I see no reason why this game should not be rated just E. My only guess why it got this rating is because the other day the actual movie was given an official rating of PG-13. Revenge of the Sith DS will be released on May 5th, just in time for the movie. Hit the link to check out the video in any browser or right click and save it to your computer.

Just like we promised last week, we have added the first of many news banners to the site. The total number of banners right now is at twenty eight and we plan to have at least one new one per month. It was brought to my attention by Eric that we did not have a Super Smash Brothers Melee banner. Well, I just couldn't believe I had forgotten all about the best selling Cube game ever. So I took a few hours and came up with one the my favorite banners to date. I also had some pretty good ideas for a Donkey Konda banner. That one didnt take nearly as long as the Melee banner but turned out awesome as well. Hit the links below to check them out and then look forward to seeing them in the banner rotation from now on.

Scans have surfaced from Spanish gaming magazine Hobby Consolas, which had one of their editors go to Japan recently, who was able to play what is arguably the biggest game of the year: the brand new Legend of Zelda! From the article in the magazine, we have some new info, as well as some brand new screenshots. Here is some of the info as translated from the magazine:
-At the game's start, Link is 16 years old. As time goes on, Link will grow older in the game.
-The village shots you see where Link is dressed differently are from the game's first village, called Toaru Village. It's kind of like how Kokiri Forest was the initial starting village in Ocarina of Time.
-The pictures that we've seen of Link fighting enemies while on his horse have been shown for a reason - horse combat plays a big role in the new Zelda.
-The game's controls are similar to OoT and Wind Waker - Z-targeting is back, using the L trigger on the GameCube. Jumping will once again be automatic.
-The game is reportedly 2 to 3 times bigger/longer than Ocarina of Time! According to the magazine, up to 70 hours of gameplay is possible.
-According to Eiji Aonuma, "Making the water trasparent in this new Zelda as opossed to Wind Waker will allow us to give a realistic and more beautiful feel to the game and also open the game to a new subaquactic world."
-Aonuma also said that went for a more Shonen Manga style as opposed to a Square Enix CG-type look.
-And last but not least, cuccos are back.
The editor was also able to play what could very well be the E3 demo, including levels where Link must learn his way around the village, round up cows, and defeat mounted beasts while on horseback. Also, the first details were revealed on the new Four Swords game being made for the Nintendo DS, in that it will feature touch screen control, and character interaction will be similar to Four Swords Adventures - plus, the game WILL BE ONLINE. This is some huge stuff, and you can fully expect we're going to give the new Zelda the shakedown it rightfully deserved this year at E3, including exclusive video footage you will not find anywhere else, on both the site and the upcoming DVD. Trust me, you do not want to miss this one.
UPDATE: Thanks to Jeux-France, we've just obtained better quality scans from the magazine. Check them out below.

First Look and Info on Prince of Persia 3 [ OPM UK ]
|
From the latest issue of Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK, we have our first look at the hotly anticipated third Prince of Persia game, tentively titled Prince of Persia 3. The latest edition of Ubisoft's critically-acclaimed series will be even darker than the incredibly macabre Warrior Within, but in a more mature way in opposition to the heavy metal goth so prevalent in the previous adventure. The title will take place directly after Warrior Within, where the Prince returns home to face another challenge created by the sands themselves. Making its debut in the game will be some Splinter Cell-esque sneaking and stealth maneuvers, as the Prince can use his trusted sword or his new whip to take enemies out before they even know he's there. The game will also be much less linear and far more open, as the Prince must fight to face his final challenge - an evil version of himself. Check out the scan featuring the first image of the game below, and check back here at E3 time to see all there is to see on the Prince's latest adventure. Prince of Persia 3 will be released for the Nintendo GameCube this fall.

Nintendo has announced that Odama, the military strategy-pinball title for the GameCube announced at E3 last year, has been cancelled. However, it isn't exactly dead - merely switching platforms. Nintendo has announced that the game will now be developed for the Nintendo DS, and released in Japan later this year. No American release was announced, but if Nintendo shows the game off at E3 this year, like they did last year, we'll be sure to take another look.
EDIT: Turns out this was a joke by Vivarium (developer behind Odama). As of now Odama is still on the GameCube. We apologize for the error.

Polarium, the addictive new puzzle game that launches today for Nintendo DS, requires players to flip a series of falling tiles from white to black or black to white using the unique touch screen of the dual-screened Nintendo DS. The action starts simple but increases in speed and complexity as players complete more levels. If only one player has a copy of Polarium, the player can use DS Download Play to compete against a friend wirelessly or send a demo game and 10 stock puzzles to another DS. If both players have a copy of Polarium, players can compete head-to-head or share custom-made puzzles. If the players are beyond the wireless range of the DS, one player can create a puzzle, opt to generate a password, then give it to a friend. As long as that friend also has a copy of Polarium, the recipient can type the password into their Nintendo DS and up pops the unique puzzle, ready to play.
