Sega and Michael Crichton Team Up [ Yahoo! Finance ] Sega has teamed up with Michael Crichton to create a new original game. No announced platform or concepts yet, more news as soon as we get it.

Nintendo Cuts Ties with Rare [ Yahoo! Finance ] Nintendo has announced that it's 49% stock in Rare has been sold. They will retain all original franchises developed by Rare, but whether that includes Perfect Dark and Conker is unknown. Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and Diddy Kong are still Nintendo's.

IBM Ships 10 Millionth Gekko [ N-Philes ] IBM has manufactured and shipped it's 10 millionth Gekko, the GameCube's processor.

Starcraft Comes to GameCube [ IGN Cube ] Blizzard has announced a new Starcraft game to be released on the GameCube. However don't be expecting another RTS as the original Starcraft, but instead a Third-person Shooter revolving around a Ghost Trooper named Nova. The game will be titled Starcraft: Ghost and doesnt have a release date yet.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for GameCube [ Yahoo! Finance ] Black Isle Studios announced today that Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is in the works for the GameCube. No release date has been announced yet.

Phantasy Star Online Available for Import [ Planet GameCube ] Planet GameCube is reporting that Phantasy Star Online will in fact work with a modified US GameCube. The game has an english language option built in, and should be able to connect with no problem.

Legend of Zelda and Mario Party 4 get Release Dates [ N-Philes ] Nintendo has announced official Japanese release dates for Legend of Zelda and Mario Party 4. The Legend of Zelda will be released on December 13th and Mario Party 4 on October 8th.

Greek Games Ban Unconstitutional? [ GameSpot ] Greek Courts have thrown out the first case to prosecute offenders of the new Greek ban on games, and have deemed it unconstitutional. The violators are workers at an intenet cafe that allowed customers to play Counter-Strike and Chess on the computers.

Rare Bought by Microsoft [ IGN Cube ] It turns out that all of our fears have come to reality. IGN Cube is reporting that the rumors of Microsoft buying out Rareware have been confirmed. Apparently Nintendo was offered the company a year ago and they refused, which was when rare went to the open market. Activision and Microsoft were the top bidders, Microsoft won out. Nintendo sold all of its 49% share in the company Microsoft bought it off, leaving Nintendo's ties with Rareware cut. The official announcement is said to be made soon.

UPDATED: Nintendo has openly denied their selling of their stock in Rare, according to Yahoo! Finance.

Rare Bought by Microsoft [ IGN Cube ] It turns out that all of our fears have come to reality. IGN Cube is reporting that the rumors of Microsoft buying out Rareware have been confirmed. Apparently Nintendo was offered the company a year ago and they refused, which was when rare went to the open market. Activision and Microsoft were the top bidders, Microsoft won out. Nintendo sold all of its 49% share in the company Microsoft bought it off, leaving Nintendo's ties with Rareware cut. The official announcement is said to be made soon.

Eidos Announces 15 Month Results [ Lik-Sang ] Lik-Sang is advertising a new adaptor that allows a GameCube to be hooked up to a PC or MAC using a USB connector. Release date is set for September 25th and Lik-Sang is selling it for $18.90. Thanks to Planet Nintendo and N-Philes for the tip.

Take-Two Interactive announces Third Quarter Results [ Yahoo! Finance ] Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. has announced that they recieved a 51% increase in net sales over this time last year, totaling $122.5 million. Last year this was at $81.3 million.

Super Mario Sunshine Breaks Records [ Yahoo! Finance ] In it's frist 10 days of availability, Super Mario Sunshine sold 350,000 copies. This also boosted hardware sales, with reports of 50% increases to nearly double sales.

Bandai and Nintendo Team Up [ N-Philes ] N-Philes is reporting that Bandai has announced plans to develop games for the GameCube. Nintendo will take care of distribution and marketing, leaving Bandai to focus on the developement. There will be five games to be released in Japan starting in November and going through March 2003, including Superman, a war game, a fighting game, and a shooter.

Video Games Show Staying Power [ Yahoo! Finance ] Occording to a report by Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., video game sales rose 40% in 2001 from 2000 and so far this year have risen another 20%. Jeff Vilensky attributes much of the rise to the need for more at-home entertainment because of concerns with travel and the economy. He also attributes the rise to drops in Hardware prices making games more affordable.

New Resident Evil 0 Creatures [ Capcom Japan ] Capcom has just announced 2 new creatures for Resident Evil 0. The new creatures are Mukade and Crow. Mukade is another insect-like creature and Crow is basically like it was in the older RE games.
